Michael Jamieson is a master stonemason, who turns blocks of stone and marble into art sculpture and functional creations. His 21-year career has run the gamut of stoneworking: creating custom fireplaces and sculpture; restoring outside walls; installing interior and exterior veneers; and constructing patios, steps, and entrance piers.

"I use local stone whenever possible," Jamieson says of his efforts to blend his works into the area's landscapes. He was an art major in college and concentrated on stone carving at the Northern New Jersey Art Center.

Jamieson handcarved the Orangeburg Town Hall's Sept. 11 memorial of an eagle and U.S. flag, from 10 tons of granite.
